After a fender-bender on West Main: what to do first
May 12, 2026 · 4 min read · by the team at Liberty Auto Body
A scrape in a parking lot or a bump at a light on West Main is the kind of thing that ruins an afternoon without actually hurting anyone. The next few minutes matter more than the next few weeks, so it pays to have a short list in your head before it happens.
First, move the cars out of the road if they still drive and nobody is hurt. Stamford traffic does not wait for paperwork, and a second collision is the part you want to avoid. Snap photos of both cars, the plates, and the road before anything gets moved if you can — then move them.
Swap information the old-fashioned way: name, phone, plate, and insurance. A photo of the other driver's insurance card is fine. Do not admit fault out loud, even if you think it was you. That is for the insurance adjusters to sort.
Look at the damage with the light behind you. A scrape that looks cosmetic in a dim lot can turn out to be a cracked mounting tab or a bent bracket once you see it in daylight. That difference is what changes a quote from cheap to real.
Then call a body shop. We are on West Main, a few minutes from most of Stamford, and we will look at it and tell you what it actually costs before anyone touches a wrench. No appointment needed for an estimate during shop hours.
